It took less than three overs on Wednesday morning for India to get the final wicket and complete the 203-run win over England in the third Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. The hosts still lead the series 2-1 but will have a lot to ponder as the teams head to Southampton for the fourth Test.
As the teams walked off, the picture was a stark contrast when Virat Kohli's team was thrashed in Lord's. The series has now opened up and the Indian skipper spoke with more confidence at the post-match presentation.
Kohli was also the man of the match for scoring 97 and 103 in the two innings. However, he was even more pleased this time as his efforts finally resulted in a victory, unlike Edgbaston.
'There was no panic after Lord's'
"The victory was much-needed in this series and in context, and to have been clinical in all departments is a victory for the entire dressing room. A complete Test for us. There was no panic, and we were outplayed in only one game out of the last 5, and that was Lord's," Kohli said after the match.
Speaking fondly about the bowling attack, the captain heaped praises on all his bowlers and lauded them for their effort and their upbeat attitude.
"We dominated in this game because we put runs on the board and then the bowlers did well, they were waiting and ready, even Ashwin did well with his injury. The bowling group was ready to take 20 wickets again," the captain said.
So does Virat believe that his team can make a comeback and clinch the series 3-2 after being 2-0 down? The fact that this has been done only once in the history of the game does make this scenario a tough prospect but Kohli exuded confidence.
"We just need to keep moving forward, keep winning. We wouldn't be 2-1 if we didn't believe. The respect and the belief in the change room is important, and one must keep wanting to win. We need to bring out the impact performances in the next two Tests as well," the skipper said.
India's slip catching was quite sharp during the third Test match and that was the difference between the two sides. Kohli spoke about this trait and said that only when all the three departments come together, a Test match be won.
