Leander Paes and Martina Hingis are a major force in mixed doubles and they have proved it by reaching the semi finals of the mixed doubles competition in Wimbledon 2015. The Indo-Swiss pair looks in good form to challenge for their second grand slam of the season after winning the Australian Open earlier in the year.
Paes and Hingis might have been disappointed after their loss in the French Open 2015 pre quarters, where they lost to Slovenian Katarina Srebotnik and Romanian Horia Tecau 7-6, 3-6 and 6-10, but they can make amends during the third grand slam of the year as they prepare to face top seeds Mike Bryan and Bethanie Mattek-Sands from the USA.
Bryan even praised his partner stating that Mattek-Sands has taken her game to the next level. "I've learned a lot from Bethanie this year, she's one of the hardest working players on tour and she's helping me to stay fit late in my career," Wimbledon official website quoted Bryan as saying.
"She's taken her game to the next level and it's been inspiring at this age to see her just roast the ball. That's the name of the game in doubles, it's a game of small margins; you've got to shoot for the alleys and she goes for it. You have to have that aggressive mentality and she's a little bulldog, she rises to the occasion."
Mike Bryan, who partnered brother Bob Bryan, was also the top seed in the men's doubles, but lost to Indo-Romanian pair of Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea, and hence Mike will be eager progress further in the mixed doubles, at least.
Both the teams have looked in great form throughout the competition so far, hence, there are no clear favourites for the match. The pair, which performs better on the day shall go through to the finals of the mixed doubles.
Considering the manner in which Paes and Hingis defeated third seeds, Marcin Matkowskiand Elena Vesnina with ridiculous ease, 6-2 and 6-1, the pair will make life tough for the top seeds.
