Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu was on Monday conferred the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award by President Pranab Mukherjee.
Ace shuttler Sindhu created history when she became the first Indian woman to win an Olympics silver medal on Aug. 19, 2016.
The 21-year-old player was eyeing gold when she pushed world champion Carolina Marin of Spain to the edge in the final of the women's singles event. However it ended in disappointment with Sindhu losing 19-21, 12-21, 15-21 in a game that lasted 83 minutes.
Although she lost the match, Sindhu made a place in every Indian's heart by getting that coveted medal India was so looking forward to.
