Sania Mirza and her Zimbabwean partner Cara Black will face tennis legend Martina Hingis and Flavia Pennetta at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in the semifinals of the 2014 US Open women's doubles on Thursday night.
The Indian ace has had a tremendous time at Flushing Meadows so far, as she also entered the mixed doubles final with new Brazilian partner Bruno Soares earlier this morning, after battling past Taiwanese-British pair of Yung-Jan Chan and Ross Hutchins 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 in the semifinal, which lasted one hour and 33 minutes.
Mirza will be now hoping to recover fast and give her 100 percent against Hingis and Pennetta.
However, the 27-year-old, who is targeting her third Grand Slam title, hardly broke a sweat in the women's doubles quarterfinal on Wednesday, after the rival team retired midway through.
Mirza and Black, seeded third, defeated Kazakh-Chinese team of Zarina Diyas and Yi-Fan Xu 6-1, 1-0 in 45 minutes to make it to the last four. They broke Diyas and Xu twice to win the opening set comfortably, before the match came to an end five minutes into the second set.
Hingis and Pennetta, on the other hand, saw off fifth seed Czech-Slovenian pair Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik 6-4, 6-3 in their quarterfinal outing.
The Swiss-Italian team has looked convincing in the tournament so far and is expected to pose a serious challenge to Mirza and Black. Hingis, in particular, will be keen to add to her nine doubles titles, and 15 Grand Slam titles overall, at the Flushing Meadows this year.
Meanwhile, fourth seeded Russians Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina will take on Japanese-Czech pair Kimiko Date-Krumm and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova in the other semifinal.
