Caroline Wozniacki will play Sara Errani in the quarterfinal of the US Open today.
Number 13 seed Errani dispatched Mirjana Lucic-Baroni 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 in a three-set battle, to advance to the quarterfinal.
"I like to run. I love running," Errani said. "I try to be consistent to run and be in every point. I want to fight. The other players have bigger strokes than me, but I try to stay in the match that way. It was a tough match, I felt good mentally."
Meanwhile, Wozniacki sealed one of the biggest wins of the year after she got past Maria Sharapova 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Wozniacki played hard to keep up the lead after reaching 3-0 in the first set. She was successful to close the set 6-3. However, Sharapova fought back to claim the second set.
The players continued to fight to bring out their best in the decider set. Wozniacki proved to be the better player, taking a 5-2 lead and sealed the match eventually.
"It means a lot to me. You know, the season for me has been a little bit up and down, and it's so nice to kind of start feeling like I'm playing the way I want to. You know, this hard court season has been amazing for me. I actually started already feeling really good on court since Eastbourne. I have just been building on my game since then," Wozniacki said.
"I think the first two sets both of us maybe didn't play to our best. Well, she played really well in the second set. She went in and started attacking me, and I came a little bit too far behind the baseline."
However, Wozniacki plans to play aggressively against Errani in the quarterfinal. They currently tie the head-to-head 1-1. This will be their first meeting since 2010 Beijing, where Wozniacki defeated Errani in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.
"It's going to be a completely different opponent. She's not going to miss very much. I will need to stay aggressive and try and, you know, just go for my shots."
