AS Roma will be taking on Bayer Leverkusen in a Group E match of the UEFA Champions League at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Wednesday.
The last time these two sides met in the group stage, the fans were treated with eight goals, four from each sides. Now, it is time for Leverkusen to travel to Italy and face Roma in an away fixture.
Roma have played three games in this edition of the Champions League, but they have not managed to win a single game as of now. They have managed two draws, one against FC Barcelona and the other one came against Leverkusen in their last fixture.
Meanwhile Leverkusen too are not far away from Roma in terms of points. They have also played three games in which they have won one, drawn one and lost one. This is an equaly important fixture for the Bundesliga side as well if they would want to progress to the knockout round.
Radja Nainggolan has urged his side to step up to the occasion when they will be taking on Bayer Leverkusen at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday.
"Wednesday's match is very important. We have to win it at all costs to be in with a chance of qualifying. We weren't clinical enough [against Inter]. We had opportunities, we actually created more compared with other games and we didn't deserve to lose," Nainggolan was quoted as saying by the official website of the club.
Bayer Leverkusen have visited eight times in Italy and they have managed to win only once out of those many matches. The fans inside the Stadio Olimpico will be right behind the home side and it will be a tough challenge for the German side. It will not be easy for the hosts as well. If Roma loses this encounter on Wednesday, their UEFA Champions League 2015-2016 campaign will be more or less over. So come what may, Rui Garcia's men cannot afford to lose against Bayer Leverkusen.
AS Roma head coach Rudi Garcia felt that his boys will be able to exploit the frailties of the Bayer Leverkusen defense on Wednesday.
"We will play to win as always – and we have to win," said Roma boss Rudi Garcia
