English Premier League teams such as Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are gearing up for the upcoming domestic competition to be in perfect shape, but Tottenham Hotspur have been relatively quiet during the preseason.
Tottenham Hotspur were involved in a pos-season tour of Australia and Thailand.
The London-based club will officially play their first preseason friendly against MLS All Stars at the Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Denver on Wednesday. It is not going to be an easy game for the EPL side as their opponents consists of some good players, who have proved themselves in Major League Soccer (MLS).
The team initially had some big names in the squad such as Steven Gerrard, Robbie Keane and Michael Bradley, but these players will not participate in the friendly due to injuries. Despite these players' absence, they have a strong bunch of players in the squad to defeat Tottenham, as they prepare to play Manchester United in the EPL opener on 8 August.
Some of their key players include Juninho, Kaka, Clint Dempsey and Sebastian Giovinco amongst others. These players consider this fixture to be an important one, hence they are going to give it their all.
The MLS team has been chosen by fans, coaches and the league commissioner, which explains the quality in the team.
After a splendid last season by their young English striker, Tottenham will once again depend on Harry Kane's services throughout the season, including the Wednesday friendly. Kane feels that the game will surely test the fitness of his team.
"We need to be testing ourselves, and see how fit we are and what we need to work on,'' AP quoted forward Harry Kane as saying. "They're all in their midseason (form), so they're a little bit fit and ready to go."
Many of these MLS players have had a decent season so far, so they should provide a tough competition to Tottenham stars.
The MLS All Stars have played against some other teams of the EPL in the past as well and they have a decent record with four victories on seven occasions.
Tottenham Hotspur, who have taken their new recruits such as Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld, Kevin Wimmer and Dele Alli to Denver, will be eager not to be the fifth team to be beaten by the MLS All Stars.
However, Tottenham have travelled without strikers Emmanuel Abedayor and Roberto Soldado, who could leave the English club soon.
