A young skier aged 11 was rescued from Whistlers Peak Express chairlift on 15 February, after slipping from his seat and dangling 10m above the ground. According to an employee at the scene, Tomas Antolin Grant, the boy had bent over to grab his ski pole and managed to slip from his seat, almost falling instantly to the ground.
The lift was stopped after staff were notified of the incident and a rescue team headed over immediately. A member of the team was in place with a safety net while the boy was urged to let go of the chairlift and was caught safely.
I basically grabbed the emergency firemans net, grabbed seven people from the crowd and ran to him as fast as I could, Grant said. He was really brave! He didnt cry. He didnt have any issues. He was smiling when he landed. He had no injuries at all.
