Things cannot get any better in the Serie A as two decorated clubs of Italian football - Inter Milan and AC Milan - are set for a huge clash at San Siro on Sunday. It is one of the biggest derbies in world football. AC Milan and Inter Milan have won the Serie A 18 times each.
However, neither teams are going to think of their rich history on Sunday, especially AC Milan, who are presently in the 12th position after their loss to Fiorentina during the season opener. However, they defeated Empoli before the international break to take home their first three points of the season.
Milan cannot afford to lose the derby game as a loss could result in Rossoneri playing catch up football with three points from three games. Hence, Milan will be eager to defeat Inter, who have a cent percent record so far after defeating Atalanta and Carpi.
Inter are aware about the stern test against Milan, which has always produced some lively affairs in the past. Fans seated at the San Siro are expecting a similar game on Sunday.
Plenty of changes were made in both the camps during the summer, including Milan appointing Sinisa Mihajlovic as their coach to replace Filipo Inzaghi. The new manager believes winning the derby could give them further confidence to do well in the competition.
"Derby matches are important and winning them gives you confidence and belief, but at the end of the day, it is only a match worth three points. The next match is always the most important one. We have prepared as we always do and without too much pressure. It would be great to win just like it would be horrible to lose. However, a whole season is ahead of us and there are lots of matches still to play," said Mihajlovic during a pre-match press conference.
Milan spent around 91m Euros in the summer transfer market. Amongst the number of signings, two of the most notable ones are Carlos Bacca from Sevilla and Mario Balotelli on loan from Liverpool.
On the other hand, Felipe Melo and Ivan Persic are big buys for the Nazzuris.
With Bacca and Luiz Adriano are expected to start up front for Milan, Balotelli might have to satisfy coming on from the Rossoneris' bench. Both the teams are a major force on the offensive end with Inter Milan possessing Stevan Jovetic and Mauro Icardi as well.
An interesting game awaits with such world class players in action at San Siro.
