Hosts Puneri Paltan take on Patna Pirates in their third home game of the Pro Kabaddi League this year and they will still be looking to making good use of the home advantage in the remaining two games.
The Pune side are out of the contention for the playoffs as they still remain the rock bottom side with 20 points. If they win the next two games on the trot, they can at least make it to the sixth position, otherwise will have to be satisfied with a bottom finish this year.
Puneri Paltan did give a close fight to leaders U Mumba in their game at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Pune, last night, but they lost the game 34-39. They registered a winning start to their home campaign following a 33-28 win against Dabang Delhi.
Amit Rathi picked up four raid points for Pune in their match against Mumbai yesterday, while stand-in captain Jitesh Joshi notched two points. In the defence, Manoj Kumar and Manoj Dhull gave a good showing.
Their opponents today, Patna Pirates also come into the game at the backdrop of a loss against U Mumba. As a matter of fact, the Pirates have won just twice in their last five games in the competition – the wins coming against Bengal Warriors and Bengaluru Bulls respectively.
Although both the wins have been a narrow 2-point margin one, Puneri Paltan won't have it too easy against the Pirates, who are placed fifth at the moment.
The highest win for Patna Pirates this year has been against Dabang Delhi last month in Patna. Deepak Narwal remained the star for the Patna side as he picked up ten points to guide his team to the heavy 39-22 win.
The Pirates have two more games to go this season, and there is still a chance for them to make it to the top four, only if they win both the games. However, they also have to rely on Jaipur Pink Panthers for the qualification.
If the Pink Panthers pick up five full points from their last game tomorrow, it's all over for Patna Pirates this year.
The match between Puneri Paltan and Patna Pirates gets under way at 9 pm IST (4:30pm BST).
