Besides Shaw's return, the premiere episode will also see Reese (Jim Caviezel) and Finch (Michael Emerson) trying to save the Machine's source code.
Though Shaw has been confirmed to make a comeback in this season, it is not yet revealed whether she will be the same old operative to whom the fans are familiar with. Meanwhile, Finch and Reese will be worried that Shaw might be a liability rather than an asset as she is going to stay with the Samaritans for a long time.
According to Ecumenical News, CBS has revealed that Shaw somehow manages to escape her captors and make her way to the team. However, they are unsure of her mental state as often she is getting paranoid and reckless.
In an interview with TV Insider, executive producer Greg Plageman said: "They're trying to sort out where Shaw's head is at. Whether or not she's been brainwashed or reprogrammed in some way. And where her allegiance now lies... Shaw was always damaged in her own endearing sociopathic way, but she was 'our' sociopath. Now it's not so clear."
Denis Thé, another of the executive producers, also shared his opinion on Season 5 of "Person of Interest" and said that it will showcase a lot of milestones.
Elsewhere, despite the declining condition of the Machine after the assault by the Samaritans, Reese and Finch will try their best to save its source code. Whether they will be able to protect it from the enemies or not will be seen once the episode airs.
