San Antonio Spurs were brilliant in the opening day of the NBA season, defeating Stephen Curry's Golden State Warriors by 29 points. With that massive win, they must have gathered immense confidence and will look to register their second straight win as they prepare to face Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center on Thursday.
Spurs played good basketball last season as well, defeating top teams in the competition, but they could not deliver in the Playoffs, losing to Oklahoma City Thunder. But, the way they have started this season with a bang, they look hungry and determined for a strong season.
Though they might not have the services of legend Tim Duncan, who retired from the sport after last season, Spurs have other ammunitions, as witnessed against Warriors, to defeat any team in the NBA. Kawhi Leonard had a stunning game with 35 points, while LaMarcus Aldridge added 26. They are going to be key this season along with Pau Gasol, who signed from Chicago Bulls.
Spurs are going be strong in the paint as Gasol, who will desperate to deliver the goods against Kings after scoring two points in his debut against Warriors, and Aldridge are physical players, capable of score big points when required.
They are going to shine against physical sides in the NBA this season. Besides the above mentioned players, Spurs are always going to be a force with experienced stars such as Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker still going strong.
The Spurs will start the match against Kings as favourites, but the latter cannot be taken easily. The Kings looked good in their opening match against the Suns, who lost the match by 19 points, score reading 94-113.
Rudy Gay and DeMarcus Cousins shone brightly in their first match offensively, scoring 22 and 24 points respectively. But that was against a comparatively weak Suns outfit, and Spurs will a much tougher nut to crack.
However, if Gay, Cousins and Arron Afflalo get their act together, it will be business time for the Kings. They will primarily look for Cousins, who had a beast of a game against Suns, to deliver, and help them stun the visitors.
