One of the most soul-crushing moments of "Madam Secretary" Season 2 took place in the mid-season finale episode, when Dmitri was left as prey for the Russians. He could be captured and tortured for more information, or the Russians could end his life in a cold-blooded murder. His fate is one of the most interesting plotlines in "Madam Secretary", and one that will be revealed when the show returns with it's mid-season premiere, Season 2 Episode 11.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunners Barbara Hall and Lori McCreary said Dmitri's story would be delved into in Season 2 Episode 11, titled "Unity Node". The executive producers did not reveal much, but said Henry McCrod (Tim Daly) and his wife, Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord (Téa Leoni), will definitely experience tension in their marriage after Dmitri's arrest.
This paradigm shift in Bess and Henry's relationship will signify a change that will drive them apart. It is perhaps safe to guess Elizabeth will reveal the details of the peace agreement with Russia and tell her husband of the sacrifice America had to make.
In the latest episode, it is unlikely that Dmitri's capture will affect the peace talks between the two countries. However, in the event of the Russian President Maria Ostrov's (Angela Gots) presumed death, the peace talks do get derailed, according to the synopsis. This could partly be due to the fact that the Russians now hold the Americans responsible in some way for the attack during the peace talks in Geneva.
Elsewhere in the episode, Bess has to deal with a situation that arises on the International Space Station. According to a Christian Post article, ISS, the satellite which orbits the Earth, sends a code red but the reason remains vague. The article argues that the Russians could have hijacked the space station.
According to TV Guide, Season 2 Episode 11's synopsis reads:
Elizabeth tries to salvage a peace deal with Russia after an unexpected turn of events threatens to dissolve the agreement; at the same time, she gets dragged into dealing with an emergency situation aboard the International Space Station.
"Madam Secretary" Season 2 Episode 11, titled "Unity Node", airs on Sunday, 10 January, at 9 pm on CBS. You can live-stream the episode here.
