In the upcoming season of Law & Order: SVU, it seems things won't be going well for Benson as she might get arrested.

According to the recent spoilers, Dodds will be seen grieving for his dead son, Mike (portrayed by Andy Karl), in the upcoming season as he was killed when a suspect shot him in the chest in Season 17 finale.
Dodds thinks that the tragedy happened due to carelessness of Benson, who was Mike's boss. He alleged that Benson failed to fulfil her duty and protect her subordinates.
Though Benson knows it was not her fault, but she is guilty about Mike's death and blames herself for Mike's death, as she was unable to stop Mike from infiltrating the criminal's house all by himself. In the season 17 finale, it was seen that once the doctors confirmed that Mike was not going to live, Dodds was asked to turn off the life support system on his son.
In the upcoming episodes, tension between Dodds and Benson will tightened as the promotional pictures of Season 18 hint at Dodds confronting Benson. In the images, an angry Dodds can be seen, looking for Benson, while in other pictures, Benson is staring back at Dodds, without saying anything.
There is a significant possibility that Dodds will issue a formal complaint against Benson and as a result, Benson might have to quit SVU. However, none of this has been confirmed officially, so the fans will have to wait a bit more to find out what exactly happens once the series returns.
