A man from Italy has managed to set a world record by balancing 121 scoops of ice cream on a single cone, breaking the previous record, which was also held by him. The attempt has been recognised as successful by Guinness World Records, which has over the years kept track of record attempts and successful efforts.
The official website of Guinness World Records said about the attempt by Dimitri Panciera: "At the annual Gelatimo ice-cream festival in Forno di Zoldo, Italy, Dimitri achieved the Guinness World Records title for the Most ice-cream scoops balanced on a cone. Carefully piling an incredible 121 balls of the frozen dessert onto one cone, he successfully topped his own record of 109 scoops."
As with all record attempts, this one too had specific rules in order for it to be considered as an official venture. "The rules for this challenge state that the cone has to have a diameter no greater than 9.5 cm (3.74 in) and that once all the scoops are balanced, they must remain on the cone without falling for a minimum of 10 seconds," said the website of Guinness World Records, formerly known as the Guinness Book of World Records.
Acknowledgment
The effort was acknowledged by the authorities thus: "Dimitri's food feats have earned him a place in the Guinness World Records 2017 Edition, alongside thousands of other jaw-dropping and mouth-watering records." Dimitri, who claims his secret for success is using local artisan ice cream from Val di Zoldo, received an official certificate from Guinness World Records, confirming the record.
Interestingly, Dimitri has another Guinness World Record to his name. He happens to have the largest ice-cream scoop in the world, described as "a gigantic spoon that measured 1.95 m (6 ft 4.7 in) long and 58 cm (1 ft 10.8 in) wide, with a depth of 17 cm (6.6 in)." Guinness World Records says about it: "The super-sized scoop has a working mechanism to eject the ice-cream."
