It will not be easy for Indian Super League defending champions Atletico de Kolkata to stop Mumbai City FC now as the two go head-to-head on Sunday evening at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
The home side are currently in the fourth place with three wins on the trot and the momentum that the Maharashtra side have picked up now doesn't seem to be stopping for the moment. Mumbai City will be looking for their fourth-straight win tonight, that's for sure.
Atletico de Kolkata, in contrast, have three straight-losses on the trot and are feeling the heat now. Getting a favourable result against the super-confident home side tonight doesn't look possible now, but ATK head coach Antonio Habas remains upbeat, as always.
"I think so [we can still qualify to the final round]. There are many games to play. We have the possibility to go and qualify," Habas was quoted by PTI as saying, ahead of the game.
"I have to recover the mentality of the players because three losses in a row can affect the mentality. We also have injury problems to deal with," the Spaniard added.
The visitors have struggled in the absence of marquee player Helder Postiga as Ian Hume has not been up to the mark with his performances so far, and Habas has also accepted the fact that they lack options upfront.
Meanwhile, one player that everyone will be following closely -- be it the home fans or the away fans -- is Sunil Chhetri. The inspirational Indian national football team skipper got as many as five goals in the last two games, and that is a spectacular stat in itself.
Chhetri's combination with Sony Norde is also becoming lethal with every passing match, and Frederic Piquionne and Subash Singh are also stepping up their performances upfront.
"In the beginning, he [Chhetri] was trying to take a lot of responsibilities at the front. In that moment, when we were trying to play him on the left and on the right and the combination was not working," Oscar Bruzon, Mumbai City FC assistant coach, said.
"Then we put Sunil in the bridge between the midfield and the attacking line. And now Sunil is completely exceeding our expectations," he said.
"I know we are second on the table. But we are only focusing on Atletico de Kolkata and the main objective of our team is reaching 20 points as soon as possible and I can tell you this will not be easy because we need to win three more games.
We have only three more games at home so we want to keep working," Bruzon explained.
