Bengaluru FC will lock horns with Mohun Bagan in the final game of the I-League 2014-15 edition of what is to be a title-decider at the Kanteerva Satdium in Bangalore on Sunday.
While Bengaluru FC would look to defend their title, Mohun Bagan would try to end their title drought and give their fans something to cheer about. Mohun Bagan stand a better chance this time as a meagre draw would win them the league, but Sanjoy Sen's men would look to win it in style.
Thirty-eight years ago, English Premier League also saw something similar when Liverpool, Ipswich Town and Mancheter City's title dream were tied to single string and it went down to the last match of the season. Therefore, histroy will be created on Sunday when these two Indian football giants take on each other.
When the two sides met last time at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata earlier this season, Ashley Westwood's men were handed a heavy defeat (1-4). Sony Norde found the back of the net twice in that match and was adjudged the man of the match. Mohun Bagan now has 38 points from 19 games whereas Bengaluru FC has 36 points from the same number of game.
Sunil Chhetri-led Bengaluru FC will be banking on the fit players who will take the stage on against Mohun Bagan. They will also be having the home advantage as the crowd here will be right behind them to witness history. But the love affair between football and Benaglis have been a steady one for a long time now and as a result a lot away fans would also be present at the stadium to intensify the epic 'finale.'
Mohun Bagan will also be staging their best available players in this crucial encounter. Katsumi Yusu and Sony Norde will be two of the most important players for the Mariners in this epic encounter.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru FC will also go for a full-strength side against the veteran club. Chhetri was rested in their last AFC Cup game against Hong Kong's South China. He would be back on Sunday to bolster the attack along with Robin Singh upfront.
Both the coaches, Sanjoy Sen and Ashley Westwood, would want to be spot on with their tactics and playing XI ahead of the epic battle between the two Indian giants. A cracker of a game is on the cards.
