In the season 2 finale of PBS Masterpiece's period drama, "Grantchester," many shocks await. Episode 5 of the TV series reveals the fate of Gary Bell (Sam Frenchum), who was convicted guilty of a murder.
[Spoiler Alert]
Admittedly, Season 2 has been difficult for Sidney Chambers (James Norton). In episode 4, he tried to turn the verdict in favour of the teenager, and even went against his friend Geordie. However, Gary was declared guilty for helping his friend abort the baby she never wanted.
According to the synopsis (via TV Guide) for episode 5, the teenager could be hanged for the murder. This will no doubt affect Sidney, whose view of justice seems to differ from everyone else. He might not find any support from Geordie (Robson Green) when he needs it the most. The latter's view of Gary's guilt doesn't change. Since the murder surfaced, the inspector has been convinced that the teenager is indeed guilty.
Furthermore, the summary suggests that Geordie might be imprisoned in the finale. Although it isn't clear why, his arrest could very well lead Sidney on another investigation. Is Geordie wrongfully imprisoned? Is there enough evidence to suggest this? It remains to be seen if the pastor will stand up for his friend in the event he finds him guilty of committing a crime.
"Grantchester" Season 2 episode 5 airs 9 p.m. EST on Sunday, April 24, on PBS Masterpiece. You can live-stream the episode via PBS Masterpiece's website.
