Liverpool are upbeat after an impressive victory over Chelsea in their last English Premier League game, and the Reds are now eager to get their Europa League on track as they are yet to register victory in the European competition.
Hence, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and his boys will want to defeat Rubin Kazan at Kazan Arena on Thursday. Liverpool, who last faced Kazan at Anfield in October that ended in a 1-1 draw, reflected that the Russian club are not a pushover. Though Liverpool might have been better out of the two teams, the Reds' could not clinch the game.
Liverpool are yet to hit the ground running in the Europa League, though they lie in second place with Swiss side, FC Sion, topping Group B with 7 points. Even a victory for Liverpool against Kazan will not help the Reds' catch Sion, who will face Bordeaux at home on Thursday, as Klopp's men have only accumulated three points from three games.
The standings in the group will be taken care of, but what the players need to focus on is to play some good football and help Liverpool win matches. Jurgen Klopp, who took over the managerial role from Brendan Rodgers, has take a strong team to Kazan, which is contrary to what Rodgers did during his days in the Europa League as he rarely played his strongest 11.
Klopp expects a tough game against Kazan on Thursday and considers Europa League as a huge challenge.
"We know that it's pretty hard tomorrow so that's why we are here, that's why for us the Europa League is a very, very big challenge because all of these teams in this tournament have their targets. But we have our targets and that's the only thing I'm interested in," said Klopp.
Rubin Kazan might not be well known across Europe, but their players can surely pose some problems to Liverpool, who realised that the Kazan players never give up and play with all their heart, which it makes it even more difficult. Rubin Kazan players are going to be egged on by their home fans, who could play an important role as the 12th man.
Kazan, who should not be overawed by Liverpool and their stars, should be confident ahead of this game as they not only impressed at Anfield, but are also coming from a win against Anzhi Makhachkala in the Russian Premier League in their last game.
