The final day of the EPL season is here upon us, with all 20 teams participating in their respective games on Sunday. Liverpool, who have had a decent season after Jurgen Klopp took over as manager from Brendan Rodgers, will take on West Brom at the Hawthorns on Sunday to end their EPL season.
However, their football season will not be over, as they have a huge game coming up against Sevilla in the Europa League final on Wednesday. With such a crucial game set for a few days later, Klopp is not expected to field a strong team against West Brom, so a young Liverpool team can be expected. Youngsters will be keen to shine and impress Klopp, and put their case forward for some more time on the pitch next season.
It also gives chance for some other players like Jordan Henderson, Divock Origi and Danny Ings, who might all get a chance to play. But, it depends on their fitness, as these players are returning from injuries, and Klopp will not be rushing them. If Ings will not feature, Christian Benteke will be given another chance.
"Three players might come back, we have to see. I haven't made final decisions. We have to see if Danny Ings, in the circumstances, is ready for West Brom. Divock and Hendo – Hendo did a little bit more but they are both in a good way," LFC official website quoted Klopp as saying.
"We have to see what happens in the next days. In the end, it's not my decision. I am used to taking what I get, in this situation especially. We have to wait but they are pretty close; if the final was one week later, now we [would] talk. It will be close. We have to wait."
But if given a chance to play, the trio will try to prove their fitness, and get a chance to feature in the all-important Europa League final.
Liverpool's opponents, West Brom, will want to finish their season on a high in front of their home fans, and could play their best team possible. Some young guns could also get a look in. With Liverpool set to play a weaker team, West Brom players, if they can deliver, can upset Liverpool.
West Brom manager Tony Pulis might start with Jose Rondon up front, and if the Liverpool defneders are not up to the mark, he can trouble the Reds. With players such as Darren Fletcher and Claudio Yacob, they have some quality stars to help West Brom win their last game of the season.
Pulis was all praise for his skipper, Fletcher, stating the Scottish player deserves to be the club's player of year.
"To play 38 games for us is just fantastic, especially when you remember the serious illness he overcame. He's a fantastic player and leader of the team but he is also a wonderful ambassador off the pitch as well. He's been playing for the last five or six weeks with an injury but he just keeps going. He sets the example that should inspire everyone. He'd be my player of the season by a country mile," club's official website quote Pulis as saying.
With such words from the manager, Fletcher will be determined and encouraged to come up with yet another solid game, and help defeat Liverpool.
