Tottenham Hotspur will be taking on Chelsea in an English Premier League (EPL) encounter on Sunday at the White Hart Lane.
On one hand, Chelsea are looking to resurrect their EPL campaign after a horrifying start to the season and on the other the Spurs will be looking to extend their unbeaten streak to 13 matches.
Spurs handed a 4-1 drubbing to West Ham United last weekend, and registered their longest unbeaten run in the English Premier League. Harry Kane should get a special mention as he has been in red hot form of late. Kane has now scored nine goals in the last six matches and will be looking to strike a blow to Chelsea's hopes of reshaping their EPL 2015-16 campaign.
The Spurs recently made it to the knockout rounds of the Europa League after registering a win against Qarabag FK in the middle of the week. Spurs gaffer Mauricio Pochettino is aware that it will be a big game for them and they do not have much time in their hands to ideally prepare for the game against the Blues of Stamford Bridge.
"We are through to the next round and this was our objective. The objective is gone now. We will make sure we will arrive in a good condition to play Chelsea. We have a strong squad and a strong mentality, with the maturity," Pochettino was quoted as saying by ESPN FC. "It is true we arrive maybe not in the best condition to compete in the right way but respect to our medical staff for what they do — they will work during the flight and [on Friday] we have a day off. On Saturday we will assess."
Jose Mourinho and his boys are looking to recover from their traumatic start to the ongoing season. With a much-needed win over Norwich City (1-0) in the last weekend and a confidence-boosting victory against Macabbi Tel Aviv (4-0) in the UEFA Champions League, one would believe Chelsea are showing some conviction before they take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday at the White Hart Lane.
Mourinho is aware of the kind of form the Spurs are in, and he is not really surprised they are inching closer to the top four in the EPL 2015-16 points table. On top of that, John Terry had suffered an ankle injury during the Champions League in the midweek and missed training on Friday.
"When I watch them play, [Tottenham's unbeaten run] is not a surprise. If they tell players or managers that they are fighting for the title I will not laugh. I will accept it because the team is very good. Manager is good, players are good. Good stability, playing well. I think a really, really, really very good team," Mourinho said at the pre-match press conference. "We have to play every match as if we are fighting for the title. The reality is that we need points. We are all focused on doing our job the best we can. The only thing we can do is try to get the maximum amount of points. Our only goal now is to try to get into position where we can smell the top end of the league."
Expected Lineups:
Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris; Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Dier, Dembele; Son, Eriksen, Lamela; Kane.
