Liverpool have had a tough time getting past Crystal Palace in recent times. In fact, Crystal Palace have enjoyed major success, defeating Liverpool in their last three EPL meetings. Liverpool will be keen to change this unimpressive record Sunday, when they face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Liverpool will take heart from their impressive performance against Manchester City in their last EPL fixture. The Reds were unstoppable, defeating Manchester City comprehensively with the scoreline reading 3-0 at Anfield. If Liverpool can come up with a similar performance against Palace, the home team will have huge problem on their hands.
Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp has a strong squad of players to choose from for the EPL game. Klopp is expected to have Daniel Sturridge, Alberto Moreno and some other players back in the starting 11, and make the team look even stronger.
Despite having come off a huge win, Liverpool need to play some high-intensity football at Selhurst Park, which is not going to be easy with fans playing an integral role with their vocal support. Away games are never easy in the EPL, irrespective of the opponent, and it becomes even tougher when the opponents have troubled you in the recent past.
Liverpool player Nathaniel Clyne believes if they can defeat a team like City so comprehensively, they can defeat any team in the EPL.
"It's another big game away from home, and it's always difficult going to place like Crystal Palace but I'm sure with the players that we've got, we can go out there and get the three points. We're going to go into every Premier League game trying to take maximum points. We showed we've got the ability against City, and if we can play like that we can beat anyone on our day," Liverpool football club official website quoted Clyne as saying.
"We've just got to get on with it game by game, keep putting in good performances and try to win the games. That's the best we can do.
"It's a very small stadium, the fans get right behind their team and they make it difficult for the opposition to come there. It's going to be a good game, good atmosphere, and I look forward to it."
It is not only about the support Palace will receive at their home ground, but also their players like Dwight Gayle and Yannick Bolasie, who have always created problems for opponents with their pace, and Liverpool are aware of the threat.
Crystal Palace have not been consistent this season, which has been a major problem, as a result of which they presently lie 15th in the standings table with only nine wins. Their record in the EPL has dipped tremendously, as they lost four of their last six, and with two other matches ending in draw. Their recent run reflects on the tough task Sunday.
However, Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew is expected to have some major plans up his sleeve to improve upon their record. Pardew feels they can cope with Liverpool's high-press game.
"Liverpool were terrific [in midweek]. That high-pressing game is exciting to watch. It doesn't always work though. If we can find a way around that [high press], we can cause Liverpool problems like we have done in the past," Pardew was quoted as saying by BBC.
Crystal Palace will miss key players such as James McArthur and Jason Puncheon, while Connor Wickham and Wayne Hennessey remain doubtful.
