After a year of waiting, life at Downton resumes. The British period drama returns with season 6, the final instalment of the series in the UK.
Executive producer Gareth Neame and show creator Julian Fellowes have hinted that season 6's plot is set in 1925, a time when aristocracy declined in the UK. The Crawleys confront a landscape that has changed and one that will force them to alter their lives. This will be the main theme of season 6.
The final season will be characterised by Tom Branson (Allen Leech) and Sybbie's departure to America. If you are wondering whether Branson's character is still relevant to the plot, it is. The actor was spotted on the sets, and might even have a reunion with the Crawleys.
One of the key characters of "Downton Abbey", Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) will be dogged by the ghosts of her past. So far, the widowed mother of Master George has flirted with romance, but hasn't succeeded in finding a suitor and a stepdad for her son.
Michelle (33), who plays the part, said in an interview that her complicated life will continue to be the same. However, there will be one key difference. Lady Mary, the eldest of the Crawley sisters, will be the boss of the estate. She takes over Tom Branson's job as the estate manager and handles the farm, farmers and paperwork. As usual, her father Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) is worried that the stress of running the business takes a toll on her, according to Express.
Season 6 is interspersed with many light-hearted moments, new beginnings, estranged relationships and death. The season will document a wedding between Carson (Jim Carter) and Mrs Hughes (Phyllis Logan), and under butler Thomas Barrow's (Rob James-Collier) possible death. Truly, the trailer for season 6 is a bittersweet reminder that our favourite autumn show has come to an end.
