President Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) has to give justice to the American people and to this end, he has to make some difficult choices. In the upcoming instalment, season 1 episode 5 titled The Mission, his decision is put to test and it may just define his presidency.
[Spoiler Alert]
In The Mission, President Kirkman orders a team of 20 Navy Seals to attack a compound in which Majeeb Nassar is believed to be hiding.
Fans of the show will remember Majeeb Nassar as the terrorist who claimed responsibility for the attack on the Capitol.
However, capturing and killing the terrorist won't prove to be easy. The Algerian government, which provides a safe haven for the terrorist organisation, tips off the US plan to attack and this leads to situation that can be mildly described as catastrophic.
In season 1 episode 5, the Navy Seals enter the house in the dead of the night but find themselves walking into a trap.
The 20 trained soldiers find children in the house and it looks as if the terrorist organisation has used them as human shields.
In the promo, President Kirkman and his team talk about aborting their mission but it proves to be too late. A bomb goes off at the house and Kirkman's credibility gets questioned, again.
Kirkman searches for answers, but he isn't alone. FBI agent Hannah Wells launches an investigation into the Capitol's bombing by trying to dig deeper into a tip she received at the end of last week's instalment, season 1 episode 4. However, this only leads her to more questions.
Season 1 episode 5's synopsis (via TV Guide) reads:
President Kirkman attempts diplomacy with Algeria, but fails, forcing him to make a difficult decision that will define his years in the White House. Meanwhile, more secrets than answers are uncovered as Hannah continues her investigation into the Capitol bombing.
