The first round of Davis Cup is here with a number of mouth watering clashes set to be played over the weekend from 6-8 March. Some interesting clashes are France vs Germany, Brazil vs Argentina and Belgium vs Switzerland.
But the mother of all clashes in the first round of the competition has to be USA vs Great Britain at Emirates Arena, Glasgow, which has been highly anticipated ever since the draw had taken place.
There are some huge players, who would be participating in the contest such as Andy Murray and James Ward who will be battling it out in the singles competition for GB and it is going to be Dominic Inglot and Jamie Murray, who are expected to partner in the doubles competition.
But things could change as Andy Murray could play alongside his brother. Irrespective of whether the world number five plays in the doubles or not, he is going to be the trump card for GB as far as singles are concerned.
If Murray wins both the singles rubber, GB needs to find only a single victory either in the doubles or the singles competition from James Ward.
The Americans have a strong side as well with Donald Young and John Isner playing the singles rubber and the Bryan brothers of Mike and Bob playing in the doubles competition, where they are expected to win the game with ease, as they are said to be one of the best doubles pair that the world has ever seen. They have a number of grand slam titles to their name, which only justifies the favourite tag in doubles.
However, rather than the doubles, it is the singles competition that is going to decide the outcome of the match. Andy Murray would pit against Donald Young in the first singles match up later today, which would be followed by James Ward vs John Isner clash.
But there will be a lot of pressure on both sets of nations for the huge clash, as it not only about the individual competition, but they would be representing the nation.
GB is expected to receive huge support from the local crowd, but expect the US to come out all guns blazing.
The captain of the Davis Cup team for the USA, Jim Courier talked about the pride and responsibility of playing for the nation.
"Some people rise to the occasion and some people shrink from it. But very rarely do players play normal in this situation. That's one of the important things about the competition, feeling the team camaraderie, feeling the pride and responsibility of playing for your nation, and seeing how you manage that,'' The Guardian quoted him as saying.
