Defending champions Uruguay will play their first game of the Copa America 2015 against Jamaica in a Group B encounter at Estadio Regional Calvo y Bascunan on 13 June.
Uruguay will begin their Copa America 2015 campaign without the services of five important players who have proved to be crucial in the past when it comes to big tournaments like these.
While veteran striker Diego Forlan has retired from international duties, Diego Lugano, Martin Caceres and Sebastian Abreu will be giving the Copa America 2015 a miss because of injuries. Additionally, Barcelona star striker Luis Suarez is undergoing a FIFA ban.
As a result, there will be immense pressure on Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani, who will have to lead the attack and deliver upfront, if Uruguay really wants to defend their trophy. Diego Rolan is likely to accompany him in the attacking line.
Diego Godin, Maxi Pereira and Alvaro Pereira are the most experienced players in this Uruguay squad and they would look to make it count in this Copa America 2015. These three form the backbone of the Uruguayan defense.
The 15 time champions will look to begin their campaign on a winning note and will face Argentina next. They will end the group league by playing against last time's runners up Paraguay.
"We have to be humble, which is something that has characterised this team throughout the years. We are going into the tournament with a low profile, as we have always done. 'Every game is difficult and we respect Jamaica. We cannot underestimate Jamaica, we just hope we can do a good job against them," Edinson Cavani said in an interview with El Pais, ahead of their clash against Jamaica.
Meanwhile, Jamaica will be playing in this tournament for the first time as they and Mexico were invited from the CONCACAF earlier. Jamaica have played some good football off late and have managed to win their last five international matches. In these five matches, they have conceded a solitary goal but things will not be that easy against the defending champions. They will have to resist Uruguay's rapid counter attacks.
Jermaine Taylor, Je-Vaugh Watson, Darren Mattocks, Kemar Lawrence and Giles Barnes will be the key players for the guest nation. Wes Morgan from Leicester City and Adrian Mariappa from Crystal Palace would add their Premier League experience to this Jamaican squad.
"We want to improve ourselves. We hope that Uruguay will not have a good day," said Jamaican head coach Winfried Schafer in an interview ahead of their big match.
Expected lineups
Uruguay: Muslera; M Pereira, Godin, Gimenez, A Pereira; Rodriguez, Lodeiro, Arevelo, Sanchez, Cavani, Rolan.
Jamaica: Miller; Taylor, Morgan, Mariappa, Lawrence; Watson, Barnes, Austin, McAnuff, Mattocks, Brown.
