Chile are all set to take on the defending champions Uruguay in the first quarter final of the Copa America 2015 at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Pradanos on Wednesday, 24 June.
Chile have made it into the quarter final stages quite easily after two wins and a draw. The host nation have managed to score 10 goals in just three matches during the group stages and they are clearly one of the favourites to win this tournament this year.
Surprisingly, Chile have never won the Copa America title in 99 years since its inception and Jorge Sampaoli's men in red would want to change that record this time. They cannot face the other two favourites Brazil and Argentina until the big final, but for now they will have to overcome Uruguay.
Uruguay's journey in this tournament have been a scratchy one as they sneaked into the knock-out stages being one of the best third-placed teams after the group stages. Colombia is the other nation that got through to the quarter final stage, according to this rule.
If La Roja manage to outplay Oscar Tabarez's men, then they would face either Bolivia (who they thrashed 5-0 in the last match of the group stage) or Peru.
Meanwhile, Luis Suraez's absence from the national side has left an impact already. The onus shifted to Edinson Cavani who has failed to fire in this tournament so far.
Uruguay have managed to score only two goals in the group stage and they have conceded two goals. Goal-scoring will be a concern for Diego Godin-led Uruguay.
"We saw on TV about the pollution but we have not discussed anything with the doctor. Chile are favourite. They are local and want to win the title for the first time, they are with their people and have that pressure. We know it is their opportunity to earn a historic title," Godin told the reporters ahead of their quarter final clash against host nation Chile.
Defending champions Uruguay would want to win this Copa America title for the record 16th time. And for Chile, home support will be a key and they might just prevail over Uruguay.
Expected Line-ups:
Chile: Bravo, Isla, Medel, Jara, Beausejour, Aranguiz, Diaz, Valdivia, Vidal, Sanchez, Vargas.
Uruguay: Muslera, M Pereira, Gimenez, Godin, A Pereira, Sanchez, Gonzalez, Arevalo, Rolan, Hernandez, Cavani.
