A total of six Indian shooters will be live in action today at the Barry Buddon Shooting Range in Glasgow at the 20th Commonwealth Games.
Medal hopes Abhinav Bindra and Heena Sidhu, who will be part of the 10 metre air pistol event, will be joined by Ravi Kumar and Malaika Goel.
Also in action will be Arti Singh Rao and Mairaj Ahmad Khan who will take part in the skeet shooting event.
India had amassed a whooping 30 medals as a collective total in shooting at the previous edition of the games held in Delhi in 2010, and high expectations rest on their shoulders to do better this year albeit sans the presence of Olympic bronze medalist Gagan Narang and Arjuna awardee Ronjan Sodhi.
Below is the schedule for the shooters in action for India on Day 2 in Glasgow.
Women's draw
10m Pistol Event
- Heena Sidhu
Heena is one of the most accomplished shooters in India with an impressive 13 gold, 7 silvers and 2 bronze medals to her credit.
Sidhu has represented India in various championships such as the Asian Games, Polish Open, Hungarian Open and many more and is one of India's biggest medal hope this year.
Sidhu, 24, will start her campaign in CWG 2014 high on confidence after having claimed the top spot at the Munich World Cup late last year.
- Malaika Goel
An Asian youth cup gold medalist, 17-year-old Malakia Goel is one of India's most promising stars in the field of air pistol and will be the second Indian in the 10 meter pistol event.
Supported by the Olympic Gold Quest, Goel won the national 10m air pistol gold by beating out the likes of Heena Sidhu and Rahi Sarnobat in December last year.
Women's Skeet Shooting
- Arti Singh Rao
Arti Singh Rao won her first gold in 2005 in Bangkok and a silver at the 2009 Asian Championships.
Men's Draw
- Abhinav Bindra
India's most successful shooter, Abhinav Bindra will start his campaign at the Barry Buddon Shooting Range early on Friday morning in hope of cornering a gold medal.
The 2008 Beijing Olympics gold medalist, who went on to win gold at the 2012 Asian Championships in Doha which he supplemented with a Gold in Paris and a silver at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, said yesterday that this will be his last Commonwealth Games.
- Ravi Kumar
Ravi Kumar will be India's second representative in the 10m pistol category.
A member of the air force, Kumar had won gold at the Kumar Surendra Singh Championship and the Sardar Sajjan Singh Sethi Masters in 2013.
But, he is best remembered for edging Bindra in the 10m rifle event qualifiers at the National shooting championship late last year.
Men's Skeet Shooting
- Mairaj Ahmad Khan
Mairaj Ahmad Khan is a former national champion who took part in many World Cups and Asian Championships.
He will take part in the 10 metre skeet shooting competition with the qualifiers.
Both Heena and Malaika qualified for the finals which will be telecast at 5 pm IST.
