Top spot is up for grabs when Benfica host Atletico Madrid in a Group C match of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
Both teams have already qualified for the knockout rounds, having picked up 10 points each from five matches. Benfica are in pole position to seal top spot, as the Portuguese side only need a draw at home owing to a better head-to-head against Atletico Madrid, having beaten the Spanish side 2-1 in the reverse fixture.
"We're up against a side that are having a great season," Benfica manager Rui Vitoria said. "Since our win in Spain they have played 12 matches, won almost all and conceded four goals. This shows their power, but we also have to be aware that they have great attackers, too.
"Perhaps both teams are in the position they wanted to be in at the beginning – qualified. But at home, with the support of our fans, we want to win and end in first place. There isn't much to think about."
Atletico Madrid are in great form at the moment, unbeaten in 12 matches and having won six of their last six games. Diego Simeone's men look primed for another La Liga title challenge and they also remain serious contenders for the Champions League crown as well, having lost to Real Madrid in the final at the very stadium they will play on Tuesday a couple of seasons back.
"Benfica had a great game in [the reverse fixture in] Madrid and are a team with interesting options up front," Simeone said. "We have to be wary of the players they have that can create us problems.
"We have been a solid team for four or five years now and we have our style. Our aim is always to win and it would be great to finish top of the group."
Team news: Benfica will be without Luisao and Nelson Semedo, while Tiago and Jackson Martinez are ruled out for Atletico.
