Juventus, who are the most successful side in Serie A history, have been below par in the domestic competition this season as they lie on 15th place with one win from six games. However, things are different in the champions league, where they defeated Manchester City in their opening fixture.
The Italian side will be eager to maintain such champions league form when they face Europa League winners, Sevilla, at Juventus Stadium on Wednesday for the Group D tie. Sevilla, like Juventus, also have been poor in the La Liga where they are struggling in 16th position with one win from six games.
Sevilla coach, Unai Emery, was full of praise for Juventus, who possess some world-class players such as Paul Pogba, Gianluigi Buffon, Alvaro Morata, Paulo Dybala amongst others. These star players have not been able to gel as a unit this season, which has led to such dismal run of form in their domestic competition.
"They have a fantastic team, full of great players and maybe their league season is not a fair reflection of what this team is. All I can say is that they really are a great team – in terms of individuals, history, their overall level is really high," UEFA official website quoted Emery as saying.
After their splendid Europa League title win and a fifth place finish in the La Liga last season, their fans have high expectations from their team.
"People are expecting a great deal from us so we've got to do our best to deliver as much as we can. I have faith in the work we are doing. We share the same goals, we just need to continue along this path we are following together, as one," added Emery.
Sevilla will find it difficult against the Italian giants as the home team are going to be well supported by their fans. However, Juventus cannot afford to take Sevilla lightly.
Despite their form, Juventus are one of the biggest teams in the champions league and also one the serious contenders for the title.
Juventus coach, Massimiliano Allegri, wants to win the competition, but understands his first objective should be to win the group. "Winning the Champions League is a dream. I think Juventus' aim has always got to be to reach the knockout stage. In the past you had only four teams you wanted to avoid at that stage; now there are eight," said Massimiliano Allegri.
"First we've got to win the group and that's not easy. The Champions League has got to be a dream."
If the Italian side wants to win the all important champions league, they need their star players such as Pogba, Buffon, Dbyala and amongst all, Morata and Mario Mandžukić in top form and find the back of the net regularly.
Coming into this game, Juventus are set to miss their key players such as Mandžukić and Claudio Marchisio, who are both suffering thigh injuries. As for Sevilla, Ever Banega and Fenando Llorente are big players out of tonight's game.
