According to the synopsis of the episode as stated by TV Guide: "Assailants are pursued after a loss devastates the task force, with focus turned to a mysterious group using a global satellite network. Elsewhere, Red faces a ghost from his past."
In the promo of the episode, Cooper (Harry Lenix) can be seen knocking on Tom Keene's (Ryan Eggold) door. He asks Tom to join him and his force in order to find the killers of Liz (Megan Boone).
The promo also showcased an emotional moment as everyone bid their final goodbye to Liz as Red stands next to the tomb. The images during the wake are being flashed at the moment.
The promo also introduces new cast member, Susan "Scottie" Halsted (Famke Janssen). While Scottie makes his first appearance, Red can be heard, saying, "All these years, I've anticipated almost every threat, not this one." The promo also hints that the new episode will reveal connection between Halsted and Liz's death.
In their quest to find the killers of Liz, Red and his team, along with Cooper and Tom, will come across Artax Network; a mysterious group that uses some sort of global satellite system. Though it is not confirmed in the trailer, it seems that the Artax Network plays a key role behind Liz's death in one way or another.
Red will also face someone from his past who seemingly knows about all his secrets. According to TV Line, the person is actually a ghost named Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen); a longtime enemy of Red.
How this encounter with Kirk will affect Red and his quest, will be only seen once the episode airs.
