Melbourne Renegades face the defending champions Perth Scorchers in match No. 13 of the Big Bash League (BBL) at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne on Wednesday.

On paper, Renegades have the firepower to beat the two-time champions on Wednesday. The Renegades have one of the most explosive batting orders, filled with star players like Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Aaron Finch and Cameron White. But surprisingly, in the last five seasons, Renegades have never won against the most successful franchise of the BBL.

Scorchers will have Shaun Marsh back in the squad, as he has been relieved of his 12th man duties from the Australia Test team. Marsh was disappointed to be left out of the team for the Boxing Day Test against the West Indies. The left-hander scored a brilliant 182 in the previous Test match and still found himself left out of the squad.

"Shaun is one of the best Twenty20 players in the world. And when Shaun Marsh gets angry and hungry, then that's when I like having him in the team. I reckon there'll be a bit of that after missing the last Test match, so he'll be welcomed back with open arms," Perth Scorchers head coach Justin Langer was quoted as saying by Sydney Morning Herald.

"Hopefully he does want to prove a point that he should be in the Australian side, whether it's the Test side, one-day side, or Twenty20 side."

Renegades will want their dangerous-looking top order to fire against the Scorchers on Wednesday. It will definitely not be an easy game for either side. Scorchers, being the defending champions, will want to keep up with the Syndey Thunder, who are increasing the gap at the top of the BBL points table.

Squads:

Melbourne Renegades: Aaron Finch (C), Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, Cameron White, Matthew Wade, Tom Beaton, Tom Cooper, Xavier Doherty, Nathan Rimmington, Chris Tremain, Cameron Gannon, Matt Short, Nathan Hauritz
