Rafael Nadal had a perfect group campaign, Novak Djokovic not so much. But then, there is no better player in the world right now when it comes to handling the pressure situations, the knockouts, which is why Djokovic will start this ATP World Tour Finals 2015 semifinal against Nadal as the favourite.
The usual suspects, barring Andy Murray, have made it to the semifinal, but what we really haven't seen so far in London is a high-quality match; a match that makes those jaws drop to the floor and is the talking point for days to come.
With only three matches remaining, it is time for the best players in 2015 to finally deliver, starting with Nadal vs Djokovic.
Djokovic made a perfectly normal start to this ATP World Tour Finals 2015 campaign; i.e. dismantling his opponent with barely getting to top gear. However, the Serbian tripped up considerably against Roger Federer in the second match, before clinching the necessary win against Tomas Berdych to seal his place in the semifinals.
While that loss to Federer showed Djokovic is not unbeatable – like he has seemed most of 2015 – the world number one is a different beast when it comes to must-win matches. He just has that confidence at the moment to hold his nerve better in the pressure moments, in the big points, and breaking that resolve will be key for Nadal.
The Spaniard, who has endured a 2015 to forget, has shown signs of his old self, and the three wins in the round robin stages will give him plenty of confidence, even if he did go down to the Serbian in a final in China a few weeks ago.
The key, as it most often is amongst the big boys, will be who wins those smattering of big points – Djokovic has been the master at it over the last few years, and the onus will be on Nadal to show he still has it in him to break the best player in the world's resolve.
