The Indo-Romanian pair of Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea have reached the finals of the ATP World Tour and are set to face an upbeat pairing of Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau at The O2 in London on Sunday.
Bopanna and Mergea, who are the eighth seeds in the ATP World Tour Final, have looked in scintillating form throughout the competition as they only lost a single match in the round robin stages.
Both these players have a great chemistry on the court and play as per their strengths, which makes them a successful pair. Bopanna, with his booming serves and volleys, is a huge player, while Mergea and his baseline game make them a complete pair.
Bopanna and Mergea put up a quality display in the semi finals against Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo as they defeated the 2014 finalists in straight sets with the score reading 6-4 and 6-2.
Though the Indo-Romanian pair might have been a huge success so far, they have their task cut out against Rojer and Tecau in the finals. The second seed defeated the top seeds, Bob and Mike Bryan to reach the finals.
Rojer and Tecau, who are going to have their tails up when they square off against Bopanna and Mergea in the finals, have even clinched the number one doubles ranking after they defeated the Bryan brothers in the semi final. The score read 6-4 and 6-4 in favour of Rojer and Teacu.
Tecau is very pleased with the result so far, but they cannot afford to take it easy against Bopanna and Mergea, who can defeat any top team in the world on their day.
"We're very happy to get this award," ATP official website quoted Tecau, who is from Romania, as saying.
"But we have to snap out of it quick, because we have a difficult match tomorrow. I'm playing against my countryman Florin. We know each other really well. I'm really excited to play the final here against him. It's a big achievement for our country."
The second seeds have been the best team in the ATP World Tour final as they have not dropped a single set in the competition. Hence if Bopanna and Merga are to defeat Rojer and Tecau, they have to play out of their skin in the finals of the competition.
Bopanna and Merga have been decent this season and should be confident of a positive result as they have clinched some titles this season, including ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in Madrid and the Stuttgart Open.
