Andy Murray had to invoke all of his comeback skills in the second round to stay alive in this 2015 US Open, and the No.3 seed will hope for an easier outing when the former champion faces Thomaz Bellucci in round three on Saturday.
Murray came back from two-sets-to-love down to see off the challenge posted by Adrian Mannarino in the second round, with the performance made a lot more remarkable considering the Brit was battling illness throughout the marathon match.
"[I was] a little bit, yeah, [under the weather]," Murray said after his 5-7, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 win over the Frenchman. "I mean, the beginning of the matches a little bit. But after the first couple games, feel fine really.
"But I think quite a few of the players have had sort of a head cold a little bit. My brother was quite sick as well. I think there's a few of the players have had it."
The Scot will hope the cold that troubled him in the second round, has cleared up as he plays the experienced Brazilian Bellucci, seeded 30th in this tournament.
"I expect a tough match," Murray added. "I would imagine he's pretty close to his career-high ranking just now. He's played well this year. Good serve.
"Plays predominantly from the back of the court. But he's an aggressive player. He likes to try and dictate the points from the back. Like I say, he's had some good results this year. Won two matches here very comfortably.
"So, yeah, I expect a tough match and one that I'll need to, you know, play very well to win."
Bellucci has had it easy so far at this US Open, beating Murray's compatriot James Ward 6-1, 7-5, 6-3 in the opening round, before easing past Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan 6-0, 6-3, 6-4 on Thursday. Another similar performance, and Bellucci will give Murray plenty to worry about on court.
