Can the Cincinnati Masters get any better with Novak Djokovic taking on Roger Federer in the finals of the ATP tournament? Both the Swiss and the Serbian have a contrasting record in the Cincinnati Masters. Federer has won the competition six times, while Djokovic, who may have won a number of titles, is yet to win the competition.
Djokovic has come close to clinching the Cincinnati Masters four times in the past, but have only finished runners-up in the competition. Will 2015 year prove lucky? The top two seeds of the competition go head-to-head on Sunday for the prestigious title.
The winner of the mega finals will head into the last grand slam of the year, US Open, which starts in a few days time.
Roger Federer has been in an impeccable form during the 2015 Cincinnati Masters as he has not dropped a set in the competition. He has been at his cruising best and if Federer continues his splendid form, Djokovic might have to wait for another year to have a go at the Cincinnati Masters. Even Andy Murray was no match for the Swiss maestro in prime form.
Federer feels Djokovic is going to be a tough opponent.
"It would be great to win another Masters 1000, especially here in Cincinnati," said Federer. "Going for my seventh here is just great. It's wonderful to be another finalist because coming here now I'm perfectly prepared for the final," said Federer.
"I've been practicing and away from the game since Wimbledon. It's not that long, but in tennis terms, one month is a long time. I'll give it all I have tomorrow. It's going to be tough. Couldn't ask for a tougher opponent than Novak. Hopefully I can take advantage of the fact that I'm fresh and ready to go."
Though Federer might have been in an impressive form in the Cincinnati Masters, he is aware of the tough taskmaster in Djokovic, who does not give any easy points to his opponent.
Djokovic's route to the finals might not have been as expected, but make no mistake, with such worldclass player like Federer at the other end, he can up his game to another level when it comes to a title decider. Djokovic has been stretched to three sets twice in the competition against David Goffin and Alexandr Dolgopolov. This is not the Djokovic, who we have been accustomed to.
Irrespective of his performances, Novak Djokovic will draw inspiration from his previous three meetings against Roger Federer during the 2015 Wimbledon finals, along with the title decider at Rome Masters and Indian Wells, where the top seed has turned victorious.
