Noted paranormal investigator Gaurav Tiwari was on Thursday, July 7, found dead in the bathroom of his home in Dwarka Sector 19 of New Delhi. The Indian Paranormal Society founder had apparently told his wife some months ago that a "negative force" was attracting him towards it. This, and the fact that the police suspect he committed suicide but have not been able to ascribe a motive to his actions, have only managed to make the matter murkier.
Tiwari, who once shared screen space with adult entertainment star-turned-Bollywood actress Sunny Leone on the MTV show "Haunted Weekends," was "perfectly normal" and could not have killed himself, according to his family. Their conviction seems to fly in the face of the police's theory that he ended his own life.
Gaurav had entered wedlock only a few months ago, and his father Uday told the Times of India: "He told his wife a month ago that a negative force was pulling him towards it. He had said he was trying to control it but seemed unable to do so. My daughter-in-law ignored it thinking he was just depressed due to work overload and did not tell us about it. We don't believe in ghosts etc, but his death has left us shocked and puzzled."
Uday said of the fateful morning: "We heard a loud thud and rushed to the bathroom. My daughter-in-law tried to peep in and found him lying unconscious. We somehow managed to open the door and resuscitate him but he did not respond. He was taken to hospital but did not survive."
Tiwari, who has also apparently appeared in films like "16 December" and "Tango Charlie," is said to have started his career as a commercial pilot, but quit it after things went downhill when they moved into a "haunted" house. That was reportedly what got him into studying the paranormal, and end up founding the Indian Paranormal Society.
"He was a certified paranormal investigator, a certified UFO field investigator and a para-nexus representative in India. He has been part of shows such as Haunted Weekends with Sunny Leone and MTV's girl's night out with VJ Ranvijay. He has shows like Bhoot Aaya and Fear Files to his credit," a colleague who did not wish to be named was quoted by the TOI report as saying.
