A gang-rape victim in Uttar Pradesh has alleged that she was set ablaze for refusing compromise by one of the accused on Saturday.
The woman, who hails from Shamli village in Meerut, lodged a complaint with Shamli Kotwali police station on Sunday. She claimed that three of the accused came to her house on Saturday and pressurised her family to take up a compromise on the case.
As she and her family refused to compromise, she was set ablaze by one of the men by pouring petrol over her. The woman has sustained burns.
The woman had also blamed the police for not taking any action against the accused even after one and half months of the brutal gang-rape.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Shamli, Ajay Kumar, had a different version of the story. He took to the Twitter account of Shamli police to share their version.

Contradicting the allegations made by the woman, he said that it is a fake case and the woman had injured herself after her saree caught fire while boiling milk.
He also claimed that the police had a video recording of her husband's statement as evidence and whoever is spreading the fake news will suffer its consequences.
The police are looking into the gang-rape case and legal action will be taken soon, he added.
