The International Crimes Tribunal-1 in Bangladesh on Monday awarded death sentence to Mohammed Mobarak Hossain, a former Razakar commander from Brahmanbaria's Akhaura for war crimes during the 1971 Liberation War.
The tribunal, headed by Justice M. Enayetur Rahim announced his death sentence for the killing of 33 civilians on the banks of Ganga Sagar Dighi at Akhaura's Tanmandayl village on August 22, 1971, bdnews24.com reported.
Born in Akhaura, Mobarak was associated with the Jamaat-e-Islami during the war with Pakistan.
He, however, changed sides by joining the Awami League. He was later expelled from the party in 2011.
