Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes has been hailed across the spectrum. Business icons, politicians and common man in large have welcomed the move. Film celebrities from Rajinikanth to Kamal Haasan, Karan Johar to Ram Gopal Varma have appreciated the new development in India to curb black money. The latest to join them is none other than Shankar.
Filmmaker Shankar, who is busy shooting forthcoming movie 2.0, took to Twitter to praise PM Modi. He posted, "Extremely happy... Dreams coming true. Hats off to @narendramodi ji. [sic]" The director has often projected patriotism in his films and expressed his anger against corruption and black money in his films. Hence, his concern is understood by his fans.
Interestingly, moments after PM Modi announced the ban on Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, Tamil cine-goers on social media immediately recalled Shankar's movies. "All #Modi needs now is some #Mudhalvan BGM," this tweet sums up the instant reaction of the people.
PM Modi made the historic announcement on Tuesday on banning the notes. Later, in a series of tweets, he explained that the step was taken to fight corruption, black money, terror and counterfeit currency. It is a historical move to strengthen the economy of India.
