The Walking Dead Season 8 will focus heavily on Rick and gang's war against Negan and Rick is ready to give it his all to take down the leader of the Saviors.

This includes giving up his own life if that's what's required, revealed The Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple in a chat with TVLine. "Rick will suffer any loss, even his own self to give his people and other people the life that they should live, where the world belongs to all of them and not just one person. A real life," Gimple said.
"That's the only choice. So, he's willing to face the losses," he added.
But will The Walking Dead ever kill off Rick, its lead character? According to The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, Rick will have to die, eventually. And Rick portrayer Andrew Lincoln has some interesting thoughts of how he wants his character to go.
Lincoln described his dream death scene during an interaction with fans at a PaleyFest panel.
We're going through the desert somewhere, and I jump off the bus. Rick jumps off [and yells] 'Carrrrrlll!' Maybe that's the last thing I say! I jump off, and I'm, like, kung-fu kicking. You know, earn my action figure, right? Halfway through, I get bit. 'Ow!' Doesn't matter; keep going; 'Carrrrrlll!' . . . I'm dying, on my own, just waiting to die. I wait, and I patch up, and a day passes. . . But I don't die. The final shot is, 'Holy shit! Maybe I'm the cure!' Final shot of the whole thing: high shot, herd of zombies coming. Rick gets up, follows the tracks to go see 'Carrrrlllll!' High shot of this, walking—the herd comes toward him, and they separate. He walks through. BOOM!
Rick lost quite a number of people in Season 7. Glenn, Abraham and Sasha died in the previous episode and although Rick will be affected if he were to lose more people, he's willing to take that pain.
"It isn't that he's willing to shake them off if they were to occur, or immediately rationalize them away," said Gimple, "but he understands the enormity of what they are doing and the enormity of the possible cost."
The Walking Dead Season 8 will return to AMC sometime in October. Filming for the season will start in May.
