The Season 7 midseason finale of The Walking Dead featured multiple deaths, but this is not what has sent tongues wagging.
The post-credits scene saw a person in boots spying on Father Gabriel, and since then fans have come up with a number of theories on who it could be. A section of viewers believe it could be Dwight, who is one of Negan's men, who has started showing signs of rebellion. As readers of Robert Kirkman's comics know, Dwight is instrumental in the war against Negan, which will be dealt with in the coming few episodes.
But several others believe the pair of boots belongs to Cyndie, the Oceanside resident who set Tara free.
Speculations are also rife that it could be a member of the Whisperers, a mysterious group of survivors who disguise themselves with to blend in with the surroundings. They are first introduced in Issue 130 of The Walking Dead comics. Not much is known about them before the zombie outbreak other than that they lived in and around Washington D.C.
"I really wish I could tell you," Kirkman said on The Talking Dead when asked who the boots belong to. "All I can say is that those boots, you'll definitely recognize those from earlier—they're connected to that boat scene—and you know, that's a big part of what we're dealing with when we come back next half of the season, so we'll be revealing that soon. It's going to be a great half season," he added.
Kirkman also said that the second half of the season will see Rick being the badass viewers are familiar with. "Rick Grimes is back to being Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon back to being Daryl Dixon, whole group back together, ready to kick some ass," he said.
The Walking Dead will return to AMC in February.
