The upcoming season of "The Walking Dead" is sure to be packed with a lot of action sequences, and if rumours doing the rounds are to be believed, then some of the popular characters might die in season five.
Glenn seems to be among the unlucky ones, as the season five trailer shows him being hit on the head with a baseball bat. Fans of the comic books on which "The Walking Dead" is based have been noticing parallels in the storylines of the series and the books, and they have been left wondering if the character of Glenn will be killed off much before he actually dies in the book.
In the comics, Glenn meets his end only further along in the story when Rick and gang reach Alexandria Safe-Zone. There they meet The Saviors, following which a guy named Negan bashes Glenn with a baseball bat covered in barbed wire.
When asked about Glenn's imminent death, executive producer Greg Nicotero did not admit to the possibility of the character being killed. Instead, he noted that the scene was a part of the trailer as it served a purpose.
"I can say I'm glad you caught that," Nicotero told Yahoo TV. "And that your intuition... I can't say. I can't say. I can say that it's in the trailer for a reason."
"I think you have to go back and see if there was barbed wire around the bat," showrunner Scott told The Hollywood Reporter of the clip. And, comic book writer Robert Kirkman added, "We can see anything this season. Anything is possible — and good eye."
The trailer also shows Rick warning Carl to be careful. "No matter what anyone says, no matter what you think, you are not safe," Rick says. "It only takes on second, and it's over," he adds. "Never let your guard down."
The theme of the upcoming season is going to be survival, as Rick tries to protect the people he loves.
"In Season 5, Rick will be questioning what it is that you have to do to protect the people that you love, what you're willing to do," Nicotero told Yahoo TV. "And it's really about survival. I think that the one word that would describe Season 5 is "survival." What's exciting about moving into Season 5 is we continue the exploration into who these people are, and it's thrilling."
The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres on 12 October at 9 p.m. on AMC.
