"The Walking Dead" actor Jon Bernthal has found a new mission. Netflix and Marvel have recently announced that Jon will join the second season of "Daredevil" as fan-favourite antihero: The Punisher.
According to Marvel's latest press release, the former "The Walking Dead" actor will play one of Marvel's most popular characters, who does not hesitate to fight violence with violence.
The Punisher, whose real name is Frank Castle, is a vigilante who aims to clean up New York City's Hell's Kitchen, but unlike the ethical hero, Matt Murdoch (Daredevil), The Punisher will use any means to accomplish his goal, no matter how lethal the results are.
"Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences," Jeph Loeb, Marvel's Head of Television, said in a statement. "Castle's appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same."
"The Walking Dead" alum Jon will be seen wearing the iconic skull shirt, worn by The Punisher, in the second season of the Netflix Original superhero show "Daredevil.
"Daredevil" follows the story of Matt Murdoch, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses. He fights injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell's Kitchen, New York City.
By playing The Punisher, Bernthal joins the league of actors like Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson, who have also portrayed the antihero.
Both on "The Walking Dead" and "Mob City", Bernthal has played police officers who get caught in sticky situations and have to make some unpopular judgment calls on right and wrong. So his casting as The Punisher seems quite convincing.
While "The Walking Dead" alum, Jon Bernthal starrer Marvel's "Daredevil" season 2 will stream in 2016, the first season is streaming on Netflix already.
