Erotic crime thriller Wajah Tum Ho had an average opening at the domestic box office on Friday. However, it managed to shatter the opening day collection record of Farhan Akhtar's Rock On 2.
Gurmeet Choudhary and Sana Khan-starrer Wajah Tum Ho was expected to have a decent opening, but looks like demonetisation continues to affect the box office business of the films. The erotic crime thriller, directed by Vishal Pandya, was released in 1,995 screens in India and the film was also promoted heavily. Despite all these, the film failed to record a good opening at the domestic box office.
"#WajahTumHo Fri ₹ 2.86 cr [1995 screens]. India biz," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
While the earnings are low, the film broke the first-day box office collection record of Akhtar's Rock On 2. The rock music drama minted Rs 2.02 crore on its opening day, which is lower than Wajah Tum Ho's collection.
Meanwhile, Wajah Tum Ho is expected to show good growth at the box office during the weekend to fetch a decent three-day total.
Starring Khan, Sharman Joshi, Rajneesh Duggal and Choudhary, the film released in India on Friday, December 16. The film opened to negative reviews from critics on its release and it could be one of the reasons why the film had a slow start at the box office.
The erotic crime thriller revolves around a murder that is broadcast live on a channel, which is owned by Duggal. Joshi plays the role of an ACP who investigates the murder case; Khan and Choudhary play the role of lawyers, while Duggal is the owner of the TV channel that airs the murder live.
