Swedish carmaker Volvo has launched the XC90 T8 Excellence SUV at Rs.1.25 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). The company already sells XC90 in diesel engine in India, and the new version is the first plug-in hybrid SUV in the country launched by any automaker.
The XC90 Excellence is built on Volvo's modular Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) and comes with the T8 twin engine plug-in hybrid powertrain as standard. The in-line 4-cyl 1969cc supercharged and turbocharged petrol engine in the XC90 Excellence develops 315bhp and 400Nm of torque.
A 9.2 kWh lithium-ion battery that powers electric motor develops 87bhp and 240Nm of torque. The combined output of the hybrid set up stands at 402bhp and 640Nm of torque. The powertrain is mated to eight-speed automatic gearbox offering three driving modes – Pure, Hybrid and Power. Volvo claims the SUV can sprint 0 to 100kmph in 5.6 seconds before reaching a top speed of 230kmph.
Being a luxury model, the XC90 T8 Excellence flaunts individual and adjustable rear seats, combined with a massage function, ventilation, heating and specially designed headrests. The seats are upholstered with perforated Nappa leather. The rear cooling compartment holds two 750ml bottles and two handcrafted Swedish Orrefors crystal glasses. The luxury features also include two folding tables and cup holders with both heating and cooling options and Bowers & Wilkins sound system.
The dimension of the new Volvo XC90 T8 Excellence is identical to the diesel powered XC90s. The SUV measures a wheelbase of 2984mm, 4950mm in length, 2008mm in width and 1776mm in height.
