Swedish carmaker Volvo Cars just launched its flagship sedan, the S90, in India at Rs 53.5 lakh. The carmaker is in the process of refreshing its line-up and the S90 is just the beginning of the new product onslaught from the company. According to reports, Volvo India is gearing up for at least four new launches.
Volvo will launch the XC90 R-Design and facelifted versions of the V40 and V40 Cross Country in December 2016, reports Carwale. Volvo launched XC90 SUV in May last year and the top-spec T8 plug-in hybrid Excellence in September 2016. Its third iteration, the XC90 R-Design, will come in a sporty avatar highlighted with more aggressive front bumper and a new grille. The face of the XC90 R-Design also boasts of a lip spoiler on the air-dam in a prominent manner. The rear bumper of the XC90 R-Design will sport twin exhausts while ORVM covers will get silver shade.
The R-Design runs on 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels with wider tyres. On the inside, the SUV will come with sports seats, pedals, floor mats and illuminated tread plates. The XC90 R-Design will be powered by the 225bhp 2.0-litre four cylinder D5 diesel engine mated to eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Volvo unveiled its bestselling V40 hatchback and V40 Cross Country in the new avatar in line with the new design language of the company in February. The updated version comes with new grille meshes and new 'Thor's Hammer' headlights, which we have seen in the new XC90 SUV and the S90 sedan. The exterior update includes the addition of two new colours, Amazon Blue and Denim Blue, in addition to the currently available Bursting Blue, Mussel Blue and Luminous Sand colours. The new upholstery of the car is christened City Weave.
In addition to these models, Volvo is reportedly planning to introduce the company's high performance brand, the Polestar. The answer to the M division cars of BMW and AMG car of Mercedes-Benz, the first Polestar product expected to hit Indian shores is the S60 Polestar.
The Volvo S60 Polestar shares technology from Polestar racing cars such as dampers from Ohlins, high capacity brakes, and re-tuned chassis. The car is powered by an in-line 6-cylinder, 2953cc, T6 petrol engine that develops 350bhp and 500Nm of torque. The performance car requires 4.9 seconds to reach 100kmph from standstill before attaining the top speed of 250kmph.
