Volvo Cars launched the S60 Cross Country in India for Rs 38.9 lakh on Thursday (Feb.11). The Swedish company is all set to launch many new models in India this year, including the flagship S90 sedan before 2017.
AutocarIndia reported that the S90 launch could be expected by the end of this year, probably during the festive season.
Volvo globally unveiled the S90 sedan, replacing the ageing S80 sedan in December last year. The S90 features a completely new design language of the Swedish brand which debuted with the XC90 SUV.
The face of the sedan is highlighted with the square-shaped grille with many vertical slats. The grille is flanked by the Thor's Hammer inspired signature LED headlight, which was first seen in the XC9O. The side profile of the S90 suggests the car is longer than the S80 and the C-pillar is curvier like the coupe models. The rear of the car gets an all-new design in which the C -shaped tail-lamps are the star attraction.
The S90 comes with 2,941mm wheelbase which is the longest in the segment. This results in a spacious cabin and better ride comfort. The only criticism would be the ground clearance of 152mm that will end up under body of the car screeching over the humps on Indian roads. The sedan is expected to get a 2.0-litre diesel in D4 or D5 trims. The D4 develops 188bhp while the D5 develops 232bhp.
The sedan comes with an advanced semi-autonomous drive feature christened as Pilot Assist. The system gives steering inputs to keep the car properly aligned within lane markings on the highways. The car is also equipped with animal detection, a technology that offers warning and brake support to help avoid collision with animals even during night.
