Swedish auto maker, Volvo Auto India has opened a new dealership in India at Chandigarh.
The new Krishna Auto Sales showroom is located at Industrial Area, Phase 2 behind LTS Hotel and is spread over a total area of 2200 sqft. The car maker which is doing quite well in the domestic market had earlier said that the company is planning to expand its dealership networks in India. The company currently has 13 dealers across India and has plans to add three more in Kolkata, Mumbai and Madurai.
The new showroom is owned by Sumit Passi from the Krishna Group and also has a workshop attached to it which will have 24x7 helpline, and free catering service for drivers who are waiting for their cars to be serviced.
"Buoyed by our increased acceptability among our valued customers in the last 2-3 years, we are now looking at further strengthening our foothold and expanding our reach in the Indian market. With the all new Volvo Retail Experience at the Chandigarh showroom, we have moved yet another step closer to our customers," Indian Car Bikes quoted Tomas Ernberg, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India said.
Volvl India's current portfolio includes five cars - Volvo V40, Volvo S60, Volvo S80, Volvo XC60 and Volvo XC90. Currently all vehicles are brought to India as Completely Built-up Unit (CBUs). Recently, Volvo India started rolling out new Volvo S80 Facelift in India. It comes in two powertrain options. The base variant D4 is powered by the 2.0-litre five cylinder diesel engine which can churn out a power of 163 bhp at 3500 rpm and a peak torque of 400 Nm.
The top-end variant of Volvo S80 Facelift D5 comes with 2.4L inline 5 cylinder engine with maximum output of 215 PS and 440 Nm torque. The engines come mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and go from 0-100 kmph in 7.8 seconds. The car can attain a top speed of 225 kmph and offers a fuel efficiency of 12.5 kmpl.
There are rumours that the company is looking to assemble the vehicles locally at the Volvo's upcoming manufacturing facility in Karnataka. The company, which sold 913 units of vehicles last year in the domestic market, is eying a growth of 40-50 percent in the current year by selling 1,500 units, as reported by Business Standard.
Seeing the potential market of India, the global players are expanding its networks and sales in the domestic market. In April, German Luxury car maker Audi opened the company's largest used car showroom in India at Gurgaon. The showroom which is located at Orient Bestech Business Tower, Hero Honda Chowk, NH8, Gurgaon over a total area of 26,000 sq.ft has the facility for 110 multi-point checks that include mechanical, bodywork, interior and electrical inspections.
