German carmaker Volkswagen has silently updated its Vento sedan in India with the new 1.5-litre TDI engine. The updated 1 .5-litre TDI mill, which also does duty in the Ameo compact sedan and the new Skoda Rapid, is tuned to churn out more power than the 1.5 litre diesel engine in the current Vento.
The Vento with updated 1.5-litre TDI mill remains unchanged in its looks and design, except for the addition of the new engine. The upgraded 1.5-litre TDi engine generates 108bhp of power and 250Nm of torque and the transmission is handled by a five-speed manual and a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
The current 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine could churn out 103bhp of power and 230Nm of torque. While the Vento diesel manual variant claims to offer a fuel efficiency of 22.27 kmpl, the automatic variant is expected to deliver 22.15 kmpl. The petrol variants of the Vento continue to be powered by the 1.2-litre TSI and 1.6-litre MPI engines.
Volkswagen Vento is offered now in six colours in India, including a new body shade — Carbon Steel, Blue Silk(new colour), Titanium Beige, Toffee Brown, Candy White and Reflex Silver. It comes packed with features such as Touchscreen infotainment system, front and rear centre armrest, leather wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, height adjustable driver's seat, rear defogger and many more. On the safety front, the Vento gets airbags, ABS, Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP) on variants equipped with DSG transmission, Hill-hold control and Electronic engine immobiliser with floating code.
Volkswagen Vento takes on the likes of Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Hyundai Verna 4S. It has been priced starting at Rs 9.46 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
